Transmediale is an annual festival in Berlin dedicated to art and digital culture, featuring various exhibitions, performances, workshops and a conference. The latest edition - transmediale 2020: End to End - is curated by artistic director Kristoffer Gansing and focuses on “both forgotten and potential futures with and without networks”.
The Six Nations Live at Belushi’s
1st February - 14th March
Lovers of Rugby Union looking to watch the Six Nations in Berlin need look no further! Belushi’s bars in Mitte will be showing every game of the tournament live in HD on huge screens. Tanzolymp - International Dance Festival
Held annually in Berlin, Tanzolymp promotes “Dance as a global language” with a range of masterclasses, seminars and competitions featuring dancers from all over the world. The festival culminates in an international gala showcasing solo artists, duos, groups and the Tanzolymp competition winners.
Berlinale
20th February - 1st March
The annual Berlinale International Film Festival in Berlin is one of the largest public film festivals in the world, screening around 400 films of all genres, lengths and formats. It brings new and existing talent from all over the world and has a particularly political tone, with many of the films exploring social issues in various cultures.
Berlin Independent Film Festival
24th - 29th February
The Berlin Independent Film Festival runs at the same time as Berlinale but is not associated with it as such. BIFF displays the best of the best from the low-budget film industry, with Indie films and events being held at the famous Babylon cinema on Rosa-Luxemburg-Straße.
Eat! Berlin
20th February - 1st March
Eat! Berlin is considered one of the best gourmet festivals in the world, involving around 72 events and more than 100 cooks and chefs. A number of culinary events take place at different locations throughout the city in both restaurants and pop-up venues.
Spring Light Festival
27th February - 8th March
The Spring Light Festival pays ode to the warming weather and displays a huge range of beautiful light installations all around the city. This year’s focus is on video mapping and the topic of the world, with artists from various countries showing their work on the facades of tourist attractions and buildings.
January 2020
International Green Week
17th - 26th January
The 85th International Green Week takes place at the Berlin Exhibition Grounds and brings people from around the world to celebrate all things agriculture, gardening and food. It’s a long-running event that was founded in Berlin in the 1920s, since helping to establish the Global Forum for Food and Agriculture. In more recent years IGW has put a strong focus on environmental issues such as renewable resources and organic agriculture.
Days of Dance
8th - 18th January
Days of dance is an 11-day contemporary dance festival taking place at the beautiful Sophiensaele in Berlin Mitte. It features a number of Berlin-based choreographers and dancers utilising a range of sounds, music, language and visual arts in their work.
Berlin Fashion Week
13th - 17th January
Every January in Berlin the world’s fashion-lovers, designers, buyers and media representatives meet in the German capital for Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week. For a few fashionable days the city is host to various events around the city, including trade fairs, shows, conferences, awards and parties.
British Shorts
16th - 22nd January
This short film festival celebrates the best of various genres from Great Britain, Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland. Running alongside the film screenings in various locations around Berlin will be a range of concerts, comedy shows and parties. Keep an eye out for the program that’s released on the 1st of January!
Australian Open Live at Belushi’s
20th January - 2nd February

Cinebrasil Festival
23rd - 28th January
Cinebrasil is a contemporary Brazilian cinema festival held at the famous Babylon Cinema in Berlin. It exhibits a selection of current films from South America’s biggest country to showcase diversity and break stereotypes, with a focus on German-Brazilian films as well.

Six Day Berlin
24rd - 29th January
The Six Day Berlin is part of an international series that brings track cycling and party vibes under one roof in the Berlin Velodrom. The men’s tournament runs over the entire 6 days, while the women’s tournament covers 3 days. Both include the famous ‘Madison’ hand-sling event and there is an under-21s competition also. The lights get turned down and there is a live DJ playing the whole time - it’s a unique experience you’ll want to check out!
Hottest 100 at Belushi’s Bars in Berlin
25th January
It’s one of the biggest days of the year for music lovers from Down Under, and what better way to celebrate the hottest hits of 2019 than with fellow fanatics in Belushi’s Bars! Both bars in Berlin will be throwing Hottest 100 parties with the Countdown starting at 1pm Berlin time. Don’t miss out on ice-cold Aussie beers, chicken parmi’s and grooving to the best music from 2019. 5th - 8th December
The Zeughausmesse Arts and Crafts fair is hosted in the German Historical Museum and displays the best of Modern Craft from Berlin and around the world. Visitors can browse and buy high quality objects that are designed for everyday use.
Attend a local Football game
If you’re a fan of sports, make sure you get to one of the home games of Berlin’s biggest football teams, Hertha BSC and FC Union Berlin. Hertha BSC are playing at the famous Olympiastadion Berlin on the 14th and 21st of December and you can catch FC Union Berlin on the 7th and 18th of December.

Until the beginning of January, Berlin’s famous Botanical Gardens is transformed into a winter fairyland full of colourful illuminations, magic woods and light sculptures. There is also an ice rink and cosy corners with fireplaces and local treats.
Luging in Potsdamer Platz

If you’re looking for something a little more exciting than just browsing stalls, the Christmas Markets at Potsdamer Platz offer a luge experience where it cost only 1,50€ to grab a tube and go down the slide solo or with your friends. The Austrian-style market also has a skating rink and a game called Eisstockschießen, which is basically a cross between bowling and curling.

The Christmas Market in Alexanderplatz is one of Berlin’s favourites and the highlight is undoubtedly the ice skating rink beneath the huge and beautifully lit ferris wheel. Definitely one of the more iconic and “instagrammable” locations to go ice skating in Berlin these holidays.

Europe’s biggest animal park, Tierpark Berlin, is transformed every Christmas into a Winter Wonderland with ice rink, Christmas music and a 2 kilometer route winding through the illuminated park.

New Year’s Eve at Belushi’s Berlin
31st December
If you don’t want to be stranded in the freezing cold lining up for a club that you might not get into this New Year’s Eve, head to Belushi’s bars in Berlin where you can ring in the new year in style with friends and fellow travellers. At Belushi’s Alexanderplatz there will be a 1920’s-themed party with a live DJ on until late and confetti showers and free champagne at midnight. Otherwise, head to Belushi’s Mitte for a Bad Taste Party and watch Berlin’s famous fireworks from the rooftop bar before heading into the warmth to dance the night away.

If a crowd of hundreds of thousands is more your thing for New Year’s Eve, be sure to check out the amazing concert and fireworks at Brandenburg gate. As the clock strikes twelve there will be laser shows and huge firework displays with some of the top live music acts in Germany providing entertainment throughout the night. This celebration of science takes place over 10 days and features visitors from the most innovative scientific institutions in the world. The event takes place in multiple locations with a number of speakers sharing their knowledge with the international science community.
Jazzfest Berlin

This world-renowned Jazz festival in Berlin continues in the opening days of November with a range of jazz styles being played in multiple gigs and clubs around the city. It’s one of the oldest and most prestigious Jazz festivals in Europe and presents artists from all around the globe.
Rugby World Cup Final
2nd November
Keen on sport and want to watch the Rugby World Cup Final? Head to Belushi’s bars in Mitte or Alexanderplatz to catch all the live action on huge HD screens and projectors. Set yourself up for the game by grabbing a full English breakfast from the kitchen and one of the many international and local beers on offer. Entry is free!
Lange Nacht der Hotelbars

If you’re looking for a fancy night of bar hopping, join the Long Night of Hotel Bars and enjoy a drink (or 2) in each of the 11 selected locations. There’s a shuttle bus to transport you between venues and you get a free drink at the first bar as well as other goodies throughout the night. Every bar will feature DJs and live artists but tickets are limited, so book ahead!
Open Air Exhibitions - 30 years Fall of the Wall
4th - 10th November
There are a number of historic locations throughout the city that will hold exhibitions to mark key events of the Peaceful Revolution and the 30th anniversary of the Fall of the Berlin Wall. Admission is free and visitors can view 3D video projections of historical pictures and film recordings, animations and sound installations.
Interfilm - Short Film Festival Berlin
5th - 10th November
If you’re a film buff, be sure to catch the Berlin Short Film Festival taking place for 7 days at the beginning of November. It features around 500 films in different categories that were selected from more than 7000 applications. It’s the second biggest film festival in Berlin after Berlinale and one you don’t want to miss!
Belushi’s 13th Birthday Party

The original Belushi’s Berlin at Rosa-Luxemburg-Platz is celebrating its 13th Birthday this year, and they’re having a huge party to celebrate! Get ready for live music, dancing with the DJ ‘til late and a Bacardi pop-up bar. There will be giveaways throughout the night and the first 100 beers are for free!
Fall of the Wall Concert at Brandenburg Gate

One of the most anticipated events in Germany every year, Oktoberfest comes to Berlin at the end of September/early October. The two major events take place at Zentral Festplatz and Alexanderplatz, with food stalls, rides and copious amounts of beer! If you don’t have time to head over to the event, celebrate at Belushi’s bars with a Stein and Schnitzel for €15 until October 31st!
Day of German Unity Celebrations
3rd October
One of the most important days in the German calendar, the Day of German Unity celebrates the reunification of Germany on October 3rd 1990, when East Germany and West Germany were unified to create a single German nation state for the first time since 1945. There will be a huge street party taking place with live music, rides and food and drinks stalls.

Bridgestone Great 10k Berlin

International Stadium Festival
1st September
The world’s biggest one-day athletics event returns to Berlin in 2019 at Olympiastadion for the competition’s 78th year! It’s one of the world’s leading athletic meetings and brings approximately 180 athletes from Germany and the world to compete in 15 different disciplines. There are around 50,000 spectators every year and the atmosphere can’t be beaten!
Opening of the Futurium
5th-8th September
The new Futurium is situated on Berlin’s Spree River and will be home to a house of futures offering a glimpse into the world of tomorrow, featuring three dimensions: human, nature and technology. The grand opening takes place in the first week of September and will see a grand opening ceremony and extensive programme of launch events. Admission will be free of charge until the end of 2022.

Heritage Day Berlin

Also known as Day of the Open Monument, Heritage Day in Berlin offers a unique look into historical sites and monuments in the hope of building interest for their care and preservation. Guided tours are available for ancient monuments, buildings and places that are not usually open to the public.

The “the longest beer garden in the world”! This 2.2km long beer festival stretches from Frankfurter Tor to Strausberger Platz along Karl-Marx-Allee every year on the first weekend of August where locals join to drink beer with 2400 different varieties on offer from all around the world. SEE THE BERLIN WALL
13th August
August 13th is the 67th anniversary of the day that the East Germans began building the wall which cut Berlin in half for years. Tens of thousands of families were torn apart for decades - some were stuck in Communist East Berlin while others were lucky enough to be on the better side of the wall in Democratic West Berlin. The Berlin Wall is a must-see all year round.

CLASSIC OPEN AIR AT GENDARMENMARKT
4-8 July
A unique experience that classical music lovers will love. The Classic Open Air festival is staged on one of the most beautiful squares in Europe, the Gendarmenmarkt. For a few days every summer, the Gendarmenmarkt in the heart of Berlin is transformed into a concert stage. See stunning music performances from classical music in the traditional sense, but also rock, pop and jazz music played on violins, cellos and other classical instruments.
BOTANICAL NIGHT AT BOTANICAL GARDEN
19-20 July
Held only once a year, the Botanical Night is perhaps the prettiest place in the city to be. For 2 days in July, the entire Botanical Gardens will be illuminated and lit up for this special event. With several themed gardens, flora and mythical creatures over a 16km long path, you don’t want to miss this. The night ends with a huge romantic firework above the Italian garden which paints flowers in the sky.
YOUNG EURO CLASSIC

The Young Euro Classic is an international music festival for young musicians. It’s being held this summer for the 20th time and returns to the city it was established in 2000; Berlin.
GERMAN-AMERICAN FOLK FESTIVAL
19 July - 11 August
A festival celebrating two different cultures. The German-American folk festival celebrates the friendship between Berlin and America - serving up burgers, hot dogs, steaks, corn and the cob, baked potatoes and more - there will be plenty of grub to fill your stomachs. Enjoy live music with a country and rock n’ roll playlist, amusement rides, rollercoasters and fun stalls to wander. Each year around 100,000 visitors enjoy the festival at Marienpark in Berlin-Mariendorf.
LESBIAN & GAY CITY FESTIVAL
20-21st July
The Lesbian and Gay City Festival in Berlin is Europe's largest street festival for the LGBT community. It has been held in the traditional gay area around Nollendorfplatz in Schöneberg since 1993 and features live music, information booths, market stalls, performances and exhibitions.
LAKE SWIMMING
It’s tradition to hit up the lakes around Berlin at the hottest time of the year, and there are plenty to choose from. Wannsee and Krumme Lanke are two of the local’s favourites.

Berlin Graphic Days is an art festival taking place at the Urban Spree gallery. The colourful presentation showcases more than 60 national and international designers, illustrators, silkscreeners, and many more artists emerging from a large range of graphic fields who will present and sell their artworks (in the form of paintings, t shirts, posters, cards, illustrations etc). On the Friday there will even be a night market, live bands, live painting, tasty food trucks and DJs, as well as an opening party that goes on till late. Berlin Graphic Days is the cross between exhibition, festival, market and sale. Great fun.
