We always see magnificent, dreamy photos of Paris on Instagram, giving us serious travel envy. Do you ever wonder where these glorious shots are taken from? As a tourist in the city, you want to get the most epic photos - so we’re here to help you out in scoping the best viewpoints in the city. We’ve rounded up the most beautiful places for a view in Paris, whether it’s panoramic views over the city or the best place to capture the Eiffel Tower. Just don’t forget your camera...
1) FROM THE TOP OF SACRE COEUR
When you arrive at the steps of the Sacre Coeur in Montmartre, walk up to the very top of the dome and marvel at the incredible views over Paris. It’s 300 steps to the top but it sure is worth it. The view will take your breath away. Best on a clear day, this is probably one of the best viewpoints in the city.
2) TROCADÉRO (FOR THE BEST VIEW OF THE EIFFEL TOWER)
If you want to see the Eiffel Tower from the best view possible, take the metro to Trocadéro and you’ll see the iconic French landmark in all its glory, straight on. We recommend heading there early or later in the evening when it’s less busy as tourists flock here for the best photos.
3) FROM THE ARC DU TRIOMPHE
The spectacular Arc du Triomphe that lies on the western end of Champs Elysées is a sight in itself. But if you climb your way to the top for a fee of €9.50 you will benefit from beautiful views over Paris with the Eiffel Tower in sight. This incredible arch was built in honour of those who fought for France during the Napoleonic Wars - make sure you visit while in Paris.
4) FROM THE TOP OF THE EIFFEL TOWER
Climb to the top of the Eiffel Tower (or take the glass-floored lift which is much easier and still scenic) for epic panoramic views of the whole of Paris. You will have to take two lifts to get to the very top, but when you’re there you’ll literally feel on top of the world. Being the Eiffel Tower, expect long queues and crowds; to avoid them a little bit you can still enjoy fantastic panoramic views from the second floor - or try taking the steps although there are over 700 of them. Tickets from €16.30.
5) FROM THE GALERIES LAFAYETTE ROOFTOP
Another fantastic viewing point in the city is from the top of the Galeries Lafayette. Plus, it’s free to access the rooftop which is located on the 7th floor. After a day of exploring Paris’ famous and luxury department store, get some fresh air on the roof and admire the panoramic views whilst enjoying a drink at the terrace bar. The best time to come is during sunset! Watch the sun go down over the white rooftops of Paris.
6) FROM QUAI DE LA TOURNELLE
See the Notre Dame from a different perspective. From the River Seine - or atleast the banks of the River Seine if you’re not keen on taking a canal tour. Quai de la Tournelle is an embankment in Paris lined with historic houses, lush greenery and it offers a great yet different view of the Notre Dame where you can capture it at a side angle with the water in view.
7) FROM THE POMPIDOU CENTRE
The Pompidou Centre is a museum for contemporary arts in Paris and if you head up the rooftop bar & restaurant, you will be amazed by the brilliant views of the city. You can enjoy a quick meal or drink with the whole of Paris in view. Entry to the rooftop only (without museum access) is €5.
8) FROM THE STEPS OF THE SACRE COEUR
Sure, you can get amazing views from the top of the Sacre Coeur (as we’ve already mentioned). But the cathedral itself is one of the most impressive views in the city. Take a fantastic photo of the majestic Sacre Coeur from the steps. The building does all the talking.
